It’s the last day of April and, as May looms, so does “Star Wars Day.”
Back in the mid-2010’s, Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani hosted a popular weekly stand-up show in the back of Los Angeles nerd Mecca Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd. It later, or simultaneously(?), became a Comedy Central TV series. It was a fun, cool show, with a weekly poster designed and screen-printed by my pal Dave Kloc. A new poster a week is a tall order for any artist, and every so often Dave needed a break and would bring in a guest illustrator. Luckily for me, his need for a vacation coincided with a Meltdown show that fell on Star Wars Day; May 4th, 2016! And he asked me! And I got to do a Star Wars-themed poster. But instead of Star Wars characters, I cast other sci-fi icons in the main roles.
Despite taking the week off, Dave still screen-printed 100s of copies of this 4-color masterpiece in his sweaty Atwater Village detached garage. I’ve just found 5 of the prints in my archive. If you want a copy, hit up my webshop!
Look at that lineup!
